A. Definition of Descriptive Text

·         Descriptive Text is a text describing a particular person, place, or thing

·         Descriptive describes someone or something in detail

·         Description is often used in other text types

B. Generic Structure

-  Descriptive Text consists of:

a)    Identification

This part introduces the person/things described

b)    Description 

This part gives the details of the person/thing described.     It   may describe    parts, qualities or characters.

c)    Conclusion (optional)

C. Significant Features

·      Focus on specific participants

·      Use of attributive and identifying processes

·      Use of simple present tense

My Spot Cat

Spot is a regular house cat. He is an adorable cat.

(Identification)

He has orange fur with white and black spots. I like to cuddle him because his fur feels soft. Every morning I give Spot milk. Spot doesn’t like rice, so I give him cat food. Spot is an active animal. He likes to run around the house. He likes to chase everyone in my house. When he feels tired or sleepy, Spot usually sleeps on the sofa in the living room or sometimes under the table.( Description)
