A. Definition of Descriptive Text
· Descriptive Text is a text describing a particular person, place, or thing
· Descriptive describes someone or something in detail
· Description is often used in other text types
B. Generic Structure
- Descriptive Text consists of:
a) Identification
This part introduces the person/things described
b) Description
This part gives the details of the person/thing described. It may describe parts, qualities or characters.c) Conclusion (optional)
C. Significant Features
· Focus on specific participants
· Use of attributive and identifying processes
· Use of simple present tense
For Example:
My Spot Cat
Spot is a regular house cat. He is an adorable cat.
(Identification)
He has orange fur with white and black spots. I like to cuddle him because his fur feels soft. Every morning I give Spot milk. Spot doesn’t like rice, so I give him cat food. Spot is an active animal. He likes to run around the house. He likes to chase everyone in my house.
